posted a message on Spider Jockeys Still Around?

My world is locked in hard mode and I never use commands or mods. I fight often through the night in caves and outside in a variety of regional difficulties from the highest to the lowest. Usually, I fight around my main base which has had the highest regional difficulty for years of real time. However, my I describe my play style as "distant adventurer," so I fight in quite an expansive set of circumstances.

Tonight, it dawned on me that I don't recall the last time I saw a spider jockey. Clear back in PCMC 1.8.x, maybe? So, late 2015? Unless I'm forgetting instances.

I looked through the bug tracker but admittedly, I'm not very good at navigating that site. My Google-Fu didn't reveal any other issues, either.

I understand they are rather rare, 1% of spiders, but I've killed several hundred spiders and I've seen mobs in full diamond armor since I recall last seeing a jockey.

    Thanks!

    Quote from Eldramatico»

I trust that video is true, but I am wondering if my world made the diamond armored zombies unspawnable because of the patch upgrades, so I was asking if somebody had a world started in 1.8 that runs in 1.12.2 that saw a diamond armored zombie in 1.12.2 maybe I wasn't clear sorry

My world was started in 1.7.10 and just the other day, in 1.12.1, I had one spawn:

Here is my first version, roman style. I added railings just to make it nicer. The supports can be completely filled in too, as in the second picture

Is this something you could use? Sorry if I misunderstood something!
I dig that castle by the way, looks scary awesome!

I may do something like that (without the rails), yeah.

I'll have some screen shots soon.

    Thanks!

    Thanks.

The room got a lot deeper. A lot. Due to its central location, I decided to make it a bit of a hub for elytra rocket boosting to the different levels of the castle: Y=68, Y=56, Y=43, and Y=11.

Still a work in progress, big time:

I may just try to remove the supports altogether. Not sure.

I'm also considering a '+' shape down to that next level, then larger. After Y=11, I'll dig down to bedrock, smooth it with cobble, and fill it with water.

I'm calling it done unless I get some feedback on how to make it better. I tried stone bricks but didn't like it quite as well.

I tried making it without columns and instead a "balcony-like" supports on the sides, but it has to be two blocks thick (for the piston and glowstone) at the tip that I couldn't ever get it to look right. Always too fat.

Here's what I'm working with (again, smooth stone is scaffolding):

    EDIT:

TIL you can't place one slab type under another. Wow. I bet that pisses the vanilla build community off royally.

I think the columns are just too big for such a narrow bridge:

I'm not a builder. Not in the slightest. I'm neither good at it, nor do I particularly enjoy it most of the time.

This may not be an ideal gap to span, but I really need a 22-block long, 5-block wide, 12-block tall bridge and nothing I'm doing looks right to me.

The top is of no concern, I'm talking about the supports below it—the general shape from the walking surface down.

Here's a fly in the ointment—and I'm sure all these caveats is going to make getting a reply unlikely—it's actually an underground walkway and there will be another bridge below it. Moreover, it's a viewing area; visibility from the walkway is very important. I really don't think it needs any sort of rails or anything from the walking surface up.

It can't be lit from above, so the real difficulty is the lighting.

Here are some pictures so you can see the area I'm working with.

    Current (smooth stone is scaffolding):

(Above) The far wall in the last image will be the map wall, and the map is so large it needs a viewing platform. I can't raise the ceiling (the whole castle is up there), so the map will be lower than eye level here.

The walkway runs north-south. However, the floor at the bottom will be removed and will drop down to bedrock level far below.

There will be an east-west bridge that runs in the center below it at the lower floor's level.

Pretty well, the castle is all stone bricks with cobble floors. Smooth stone and andesite/polished andesite is used here and there.

This is a vanilla survival single player world with no commands.

With all these specifications, it probably going to be difficult to even get a reply, but perhaps the building community can help me out a little. Also, posting in threads like this help me organize my thoughts and helps me break builders block.

Thanks for reading and for your time!

posted a message on Player's Position Doesn't Appear on a Map?

I've made several fully-zoomed out maps in addition to a 4x4 square area, but I've apparently carelessly stuffed some of the ones I'm seeking into a chest somewhere. While looking for them, I found this one:

As I've explored a couple Woodland Mansions, I know that no matter how far one is away from the map's location, a dot will still indicate the player's relative position. As far as I know, my location should be indicated in the upper-right corner of the map.

I've restarted my Minecraft client and it's still without my location indicator.

Am I totally blind? Is this a foolish newbie question? What's going on here?

I'm sure the answer is plain and simple, but I'm at a loss.

    Thanks!

This thread is still on the front page: The most efficient and practical way to branch/strip mine.

I don't know if it's the most common, but branch mining is very common and is the most efficient method.

posted a message on How many times have you seen a charged creeper?

I started playing sometime right before the Horse Update, so sometime in 1.5, around March, 2013.

I've never seen a charged creeper. Never went looking for one, either.

That might be it, but in my experience, it doesn't really matter. Mine breed even as they watch me mass murder their kin and neighbors with an axe by the dozen right beside them.

Conventional advice on these forums is to kill them with a bucket of lava as it doesn't count as a player kill. Mr. N Derman even has a nightmarish setup with a lava bucket dispenser.

Sounds like perhaps their inventories were full, which I understand is possible—but that wouldn't explain why trading wouldn't do it, I don't think. I just don't know enough about the mechanics to offer much more of a reason.

It's a game rule so if you've never messed with those, it's not it.

The vanishing act is probably MC-2025 or MC-65040.

I would highly suggest two-block-thick glass walls instead of one. A villager can easily glitch out of one-block walls and a zombie can easily glitch its arms though one-block walls. I've witnessed a zombie get through a one-block wall right before my eyes. That's also why you use glass: when they glitch into a sold wall, they either suffocate or pop out the other side. In glass, they won't suffocate. With two walls, they just get stuck in the middle.

See my gold farm journal thread for actual examples of all those things happening in this current version (1.12.x).
